DEPICTING THE BEHEADING OF JOHN THE BAPTIST, BY KING HEROD. THE STORY GOES THAT ON HERODS BIRTHDAY HE WAS SO TAKEN BY HIS DAUGHTER SALOMES DANCING THAT IN DRUNKENESS HE PROMISED TO GIVE HER ANYTHING SHE DESIRED, SHE DESIRED THE HEAD OF JOHN THE BAPTIST AND HEROD COULD NOT REFUSE.
