THIS MAGNIFICENTLY CARVED AND INLAID PANEL HAS A FRIEZE CARVED WITH WINGED HEADS WITHIN FRUITING VINES, THE FIVE DIVIDING MUNTINS CARVED WITH PREGNANT CARYATIDS TERMINATING IN ACANTHUS AND FRUIT. THE TWO OUTER PANELS WITH HOLLY AND BOG OAK FLORAL INLAY, THE TWO CENTRAL PANELS BEAUTIFULLY CARVED WITH TWO FEMALE LUTE PLAYERS WITHIN SCROLLED CARTOUCHE CARVING. COULD BE USED AS A OVERMANTLE OR BED HEAD.

PROVENANCE: THIS PANEL SOLD IN SOTHEBYS "THE AGE OF OAK AND WALNUT" SALE 13 SEPTEMBER 2006, LOT 89 AND MORE RECENTLY FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION.
