A WONDERFUL ENGLISH LIMESTONE MEDIEVAL KINGS HEAD CORBEL.

THIS 14TH CENTURY CORBEL WAS DISCOVERED MANY YEARS AGO IN THE ATTIC OF A HOUSE ON THE ROPE WALK, NOTTINGHAM CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL CASTLE STRUCTURE. NOTTINGHAM CASTLE WAS BUILT IN 1067 BY WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR, IN THE MIDDLE AGES IT WAS A MAJOR ROYAL FORTRESS AND RESIDENCE. FALLING INTO DECLINE BY THE 16TH CENTURY IT WAS LARGELY DEMOLISHED IN 1649 AND MUCH OF THE CASTLES MEDIEVAL STONEWORK WAS RE-USED IN SOME OF THE NEAR BY BUILDINGS INCLUDING THE ROPE WALK.
