A PAIR OF EARLY 15TH CENTURY ENGLISH CARVED OAK FIGURES OF JOSEPH OF ARIMATHEA AND NICODEMUS. CIRCA 1420.

THESE BEAUTIFUL ENGLISH MEDIEVAL OAK SCULPTURES WERE RESCUED FROM A SEVERLY DAMAGED ALTAR PIECE IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF AN ALTAR PIECE DEPICTING THE REMOVAL OF CHRISTS BODY FROM THE CROSS.

ONE FIGURE HOLDS THE CROWN OF THORNS AND CHRISTS BURIAL SHROUD AND THE OTHER HOLDS THE NAILS REMOVED FROM THE CROSS.
