AN ASTONISHINGLY RARE AND UNRECORDED HENRY VIII TRIANGULAR JOINED STOOL. CIRCA 1520-40.

THIS AMAZINGLY RARE SURVIVOR WAS DISCOVERED RECENTLY IN SOMERSET IN A COMPLETELY ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED CONDITION.

ONE OF ONLY FIVE KNOWN EXAMPLES WHICH ARE ILLUSTRATED AND DISCUSSED IN SEVERAL WELL KNOWN BOOKS AND PUBLICATIONS. FOUR ALREADY KNOWN, THIS EXAMPLE MAKING IT FIVE KNOWN TRIANGULAR STOOLS FROM THE TUDOR PERIOD. THIS RARE EXAMPLE IS OF MUSEUM QUALITY.

THE ORIGINAL TRIANGULAR TOP WITH SIMPLE SCRATCH MOULDED EDGE IS PEGGED ONTO THE BASE WITH ORIGINAL PEGS IN SIX LOCATIONS, TWO TO EACH ANGLE OPPOSING EACH OTHER. LIKE THE OTHER FOUR EXAMPLES IT HAS THREE KITE PROFILED SHAPED LEGS WITH SIMPLE MOULDED EDGE.
THE WONDERFUL GOTHIC ARCH SHAPED FRIEZES WITH A CHAMFERED EDGE, THE CENTRAL APEX OF EACH GOTHIC ARCH FRIEZE HAS AN UNUSUAL SCRATCH CARVED DECORATION OF SCROLLS AND BERRYS. THE THREE KITE PROFILED LEGS UNITED BY STRETCHERS EACH WITH A SCRATCH MOULDED UNDERSIDE.

TO FIND A STOOL OF THIS RARITY IS A TRUE COLLECTORS DREAM.

WONDERFUL UNTOUCHED PATINA AND STILL RETAINS A VERY GOOD HEIGHT OF 23".
