A TRULY OUTSTANDING LATE 15TH/EARLY 16TH CENTURY CARVED OAK CHEST. CIRCA 1480-1520.

THIS MAGNIFICENT OAK CHEST HAS A PLANKED TOP WITH ORIGINAL HINGES ABOVE A FRONT CARVED WITH SCENES FROM THE BIBLE WITHIN GOTHIC ARCHES, ABOVE THE GOTHIC ARCHES ARE CARVED BIRDS AND LEAF AND BUD DECORATION, EACH ARCH IS SEPARATED BY CARVED COLUMNS. THE MAGNIFICENTLY MADE ORIGINAL LOCK SITS IN THE CENTRE WITH ORIGINAL KEY, THE LOCK PLATE HAS AN ANGEL IN EACH CORNER AND CENTRED BY THREE FIGURES, LEFT JOHN THE BAPTIST, RIGHT MARY MAGDELINE AND CENTRE A CHRIST FIGURE, THE CHRIST FIGURE BY USING A SECRET CATCH OPENS UP TO REVEAL THE KEYHOLE FOR THE ORIGINAL KEY. THE ENDS CARVED AGAIN WITH GOTHIC ARCHES AND ROMAYNE HEADS. STANDING ON A SHAPED APRON.
