AN IMPRESSIVE 16th CENTURY OAK CHEST FROM THE ENTRANCE HALL OF APPLEBY CASTLE, WESTMORELAND. CIRCA 1520.

THIS GOTHIC OAK CHEST HAS A TWO PLANK TOP ABOVE A FRONT IMPRESSIVELY CARVED WITH GOTHIC TRACERY. THE ORIGINAL LOCK PLATE TO THE CENTRE, STANDING ON BROAD STILE FEET, AGAIN BEAUTIFULLY CARVED WITH TRACERY.

A VERY OLD HINGE REPLACEMENT TO THE LID. GREAT COLOUR AND PATINATION.

PROVENANCE APPLEBY CASTLE, WESTMORELAND. ONCE THE SEAT OF LADY ANNE CLIFFORD.
