A RARE EARLY 15TH CENTURY NORMAN FRUITWOOD CASKET.
A RARE SURVIVOR BEING MADE FROM FRUITWOOD, IT HAS A WONDERFUL COLOUR AND PATINATION. CARVED ON THREE SIDES WITH GOTHIC BLACK LETTER SCRIPT, THE FRONT CARVED WITH THE WORD PLMIA MEANING PSALM, THE LEFT SIDE READS ORA MEANING PRAY, THE SCRIPT ON THE RIGHT SIDE APPEARS TO READ AILR THE MEANING OF WHICH IS UNCLEAR.
IT HAS ORIGINAL IRON HINGES AND CARRYING HANDLE TO THE TOP. ORIGINALLY INTENDED TO CARRY THE BOOK OF PSALMS OR PSALTER.
