A RARE AND IMPOSING HENRY VII / VIII ENGLISH OAK CHEST. CIRCA 1480-1520.
THIS FINE TUDOR CHEST HAS A SINGLE BOARDED TOP ABOVE A BEAUTIFULLY CARVED FRONT WITH FOUR CRESCENT CARVED ROUNDELS WITH LEAF AND BERRY CENTRES. THE CENTRE HAS A CATHERINE WHEEL ROUNDEL BELOW THE IRON LOCK PLATE, THE SIDE SUPPORTS WITH A V CUT AND ORIGINAL TILL TO THE INSIDE. THE WHOLE HAS AN EXQUISITE COLOUR AND PATINATION, IT IS RARE TO FIND A CHEST OF THIS AGE TO HAVE RETAINED ITS ALMOST FULL ORIGINAL HEIGHT.
MINOR RESTORATIONS TO THE HINGES AND LOCK PLATE, HASP NOW LACKING.
