THIS AMAZINGLY RARE TUDOR OAK STANDING CUPBOARD IS OF PENTAGONAL FORM BOTH TO THE UPPER SECTION AND STAND. THE UPPER SECTION WITH A WELL PATINATED TOP ABOVE A DEEP FINE KNULL CARVED CORNICE. THE DEEPLY PANELLED FRONT WITH CARVED STYLISED SERPENTS AND FOLIATE SCROLLS, THE MAGNIFICENT CENTRAL DOOR CARVED IN FULL RELIEF WITH A PORTRAIT HEAD WITHIN A ROPE TWIST ROUNDEL, FLANKED BY SERPENT AND FOLIATE SCROLL CARVING.
THE FRAMEWORK TO THE UPPER SECTION CARVED WITH GUILLOCHE DECORATION.
THE STAND AGAIN OF PENTAGONAL FORM WITH A DEEPLY PANELLED BACK WITH FOUR BOLDLY TURNED FRONT SUPPORTS, AGAIN THE FRAMEWORK CARVED WITH THE SAME GUILLOCHE TYPE CARVING. A VERY WELL PATINATION POT SHELF BELOW UNITED BY STRETCHERS. WONDERFUL COLOUR AND PATINATION.

NOTE - VERY OCCASIONALLY A SINGLE HENRY VIII OAK PORTRAIT PANEL CARVED IN FULL RELEIF WILL APPEAR ON THE MARKET AND MAKE A CONSIDERABLE SUM, THIS IS EVEN RARER EXAMPLE COMPLETE WITH ITS ORIGINAL STRUCTURE, THE ROPE TWIST ROUNDEL AND GUILLOCHE CARVING MAY INDICATE THAT THIS CUPBOARD WAS MADE IN A WEST COUNTRY WORKSHOP (DEVON/ SOMERSET)
